The Amazing Spiderman Review

I have always been a big fan of comic books and especially the idea of presenting superheroes to the big screen. One thing I don't like is the lack of progression of stories from these movies.

While the Amazing Spiderman does present a new villian and story arch; it still tries to educate the audience on how Spiderman was born. Why! Just because we have a new actor does not mean we need a reboot. And yes, it’s been 10 years since the first Spiderman with Tobey Maguire, but honestly, do we really need to be told again how Peter Parker became Spiderman?  The story that was told from Spiderman in 2002 is still fresh in my mind and probably with many other viewers. Retelling the story in a different viewpoint does not present a better Spiderman; it just adds to confusion on the origins of Spiderman.

Now for the new actors;
Peter Parker played by Andrew Garfield and Gwen Stacy played by Emma Watson had a great onscreen chemistry. Garfield played Spiderman and Peter Parker with a darker presentation. He showcased a more annoying and quirky personality, which to me was closer to Peter Parkers personality in the comics and other stories. This adaption helped separate Garfield from Tobey Maguire’s version of Spiderman and allowed us to see his own talents come forward.

Rhys Ifans as Dr. Connor/Lizardman

Dr. Connors and the Lizardman played by Rhys Ifans did a great job of presenting a complicated and confusing doctor. When the Lizardman was finally revealed; it felt realistic and life like.  The fighting scenes between Spiderman and The Lizardman were action packed and breathtaking to watch.

Overall, presenting a new villain not seen in previous Spiderman movies really expands the story of Spiderman and that is what makes it more enjoyable to watch, for it was entertaining, action packed and fun. I think Andrew Garfield did a great job with his Spiderman presentation and I look forward to his next Spiderman movie.

I give The Amazing Spiderman an imp score of 3 out of 4 smiles. Great Entertainment worth watching!

Battleship Review

Although the movie ‘Battleship’ was released a few months ago, I had a chance to see it on the big screen and wanted to share why I bothered to see it. The main reason I watched this movie was to see the Mighty Mo in action. If you are not familiar with the U.S. Missouri nicknamed the Mighty Mo, It is one of four Iowa class battleships and the last battleship to be built during World War 2 to support the Pacific campaigns. The Mighty Mo was famous for the Japanese surrender was signed on September 2, 1945 on the deck of the Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay, near the city of Yokohama, Japan.                                                                                                 

Watching the movie was more a personal experience, for I had a chance to see the ship twice in my life. The first time was when I was kid. I had a chance to tour it when it was decommissioned. The second time was when the ship was reactivated during the Persian Gulf War when I was serving as a U.S. Marine. It was truly a breathtaking experience to see a historical battleship sailing the seas once again. It’s currently decommissioned in Pearl Harbor as a museum for all to visit. If you enjoy history, I recommend taking sometime to see Pearl Harbor and the Mighty Mo. We may never see such a great ship sailing the seas again for modern times no longer require such powerful ships.

The story begins with an international naval war exercise held each year around Hawaii. During patrol, a set of destroyers encounter an alien presence in the open waters. The aliens came in response to a signal we sent in to space to identify potential life. However, the aliens didn’t come to respond directly but for another reason. And through hostile actions the aliens isolate a certain area of Hawaii with a force field dome separating the fleet, leaving only destroyers to fight an overwhelming threat. Eventually a battle escalates in the dome destroying the isolated ships and killing Stone Hopper forcing his brother LT. Alex Hopper played by Taylor Kitsch (John Carter) to take action using a decommissioned battleship ‘The Mighty Mo’.

Taylor Kitsch did a good job of making us believe he was a Navy officer. He presented a stubborn, know it all, risk taker LT. Who didn't want to be in the Navy, but had to prove something to his older brother Stone Hopper played by Alexander Skarsgard. They had a few other known actors like Rihanna who played a petty officer with a gung-ho personality. She did a decent job and presented some entertaing action moments. Brooklyn Decker who played Samantha Shane played a love interest to Alex Hoper provided great eye-candy and delivered a decent performance that extended the excitment on shore.

Overall, I didn’t expect much from the store line, especially from what I saw in the trailers regarding alien encounters. So I kept an open mind and enjoyed the CG presentations of the Mighty Mo and the creative ship to ship battle scenes which I enjoyed. This movie was mostly over the top action that provided great visual entertainment.

I give ‘Battleship’ an Imp Score of 2 out of 4 smiles.

Movie Review: Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

What makes a what if story unique is the creativity and imagination it can present. It can take a historical figure, icon or even a fictional character and tell a different story that is totally mind-boggling, surprising or down right weird. In the movie Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, the story takes the 16th US President an adds a ‘what if’ Abraham was actually a hunter. Not just a simple hunter but a vampire hunter before he became a U.S. President.

The story starts at the time of Abraham’s child hood during a dispute between a slave owner and Lincoln’s parents. Abe try’s to help a slave which gets him into trouble resulting in his father stepping in to help him. This action spirals into chaos resulting in Abraham’s mother dying which Abe witnesses the true nature of the killer that leads to him wanting to take revenge.

A what if story can sometimes be enjoyable or down right boring and weird. To me this movie was fun and entertaining to see the iconic figure being presented in a action and fictional story in the realm of supernatural. Given the story is a what if and an action movie with vampires, I did not expect much from the story. If you go in watching this movie to learn about Lincoln or for historical accuracy then expect to be disappointed. Don’t forget this a what if story about an iconic character and vampires with a lot of action scenes, blood and gore. If you enjoy this type of presentation and keep an open mind then you may find some sort of entertainment from the movie.

The movie presented a handful of 3D scenes that was ok. Nothing ground breaking, but you can tell they made an effort to apply the 3D, so see it in 3D if you can.

The cast did a decent job of presenting their characters especially Benjamin Walker who plays Abraham Lincoln. He did great job of portraying Lincoln and performed admirably in the action scenes. The one thing I probably didn't care for was the the story about vampires wanting a country of their own that tied to the civil war. It was a bit far fetched but then again its what can typically happen in a what if universe storeline, so I accepted it for what it was and focused my enjoyment with the action scenes.

Overall, I enjoyed this movie. It’s what I expected from a what if story and for an action movie with blood and gore with vampires.

I give Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter an Imp Score of 3 out 4 smiles. Great entertainment worth watching!

Prometheus Review

What is this movie about? Prometheus is about two scientists, Elizabeth Shawd played by Noomi Rapace and Charlie Holloway played by Logan Marshal Green who discovers mysterious clues left with ancient cultures of earth that guide them to a distant planet for answers about the origins of human kind. Upon this finding a corporation decides to fund the project to unravel the truth suported by David played by Michael Fassbender and Meredith Vickers played by Charlize Theron.

The movie starts off slow and a tad bit confusing for you may wonder why know one was acquainted after the crew wakes up from deep sleep upon arriving to the planet. With a project this big, you would think some sort of orientation would have taken place to explain who you would being work with. But the crew was presented more like a last minute attempt. I guess I was OK with it, but a little bit confusing to see no one had any idea who was who.

When the crew starts exploring the planet they discover ruins with a network of tunnels to chambers laid out similar to the egg chambers in Aliens, except they are not eggs. This discovery begins a cycle of events that begin a chain of chaos and unravels the true reasons why the project was funded in the first place.

As a fan of the Alien trilogy, except for movies 3 and 4. I noticed similarities to the ship design the scientists were exploring in Prometheus trailer to the ship in the movie Alien, especially the cockpit scenes in both movies. Both scenes presented a similar setting and design. Making me feel there was some sort of connection between the two movies. Upon watching this movie I was looking for answers as to how the two was related. I half to say, I wasn't to disappointed on what I found out. You just need to watch the movie to find your answers.

Overall, without spoiling the movie, its a thrill ride that leaves you with more questions and presents you with unknown and familiar alien encounters that ends up making you more curious. Ridley Scott and the cast delivered an entertaining and enjoyable mystery thriller that left me pondering over theories. One thing I was happy about was finding some closure regarding the alien creatures in the Alien Trilogy.

 I give Prometheus an Imp Score of 3 out 4 smiles (3 - Great entertainment worth watching!)

21 Jump Street Movie Review

I remember the original TV show '21 Jump Street' with Johnny Deep, Richard Grieco and Peter Deluise. It was a cop show that had many girls including my girlfriend falling for Johnny Deep, that she and her friends made it a weekly ritual to watch the show. I for one lost interest, but it was an ok show for its day. The new presentation of 21 Jump Street is more comedic and fun movie, that keeps the original theme of young looking, problem cops who are reassigned to 21 Jump Street take undercover assignments in high school and college.

Instead of presenting a police squad like the TV show, the movie focuses on two individual high school kids. Schmidt played by Jonah Hill and Jenko played by Channing Tatum. They end up become buddies during the police academy, and since they only cause trouble they both get reassigned to 21 Jump Street.

The pairing of Tatum and Hill was awesome! Since they are both distinct individuals with diverse talents, the team up made the movie unique, fun and entertaining. The comedy and action was laid out well and was interesting to watch the two actor’s transition into cops. Then relive their high school years in reverse roles during their undercover assignment. Also seeing Jonah Hill slimmed down was very surprising and motivating. I am so used to his older look in Superbad and Moneyball; it took a bit of adjusting too. However, Jonah's new look is an inspiration for it shows his determination and hard work.

The cameo of the original 21 Jump street crew was awesome. They did a great job of hiding the cameos, that when they finally appeared it delivered a more surprising presentation. The only part I didn't like was their end scene. If the goal of the scene was to pass the torch, then I guess that segment worked for what it was.

Overall, the new presentation of 21 Jump Street with actors Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill was every bit entertaining, humorous, with sadness and some fun action moments. This is a fun and great movie to watch, especially if your fan of Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, and I am for these two actors are the next generation of talented souls worth watching.

The Rum Diary Movie Review

What was the movie about?

The Rum Diary is an adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson’s novel about an American journalist named Paul Kemp played by Johnny Deep. Kemp takes a freelance job in Puerto Rico for a local newspaper going under during the 1950s. He gets tangled up with local business men, who seek fortunate at any means. Additional troubles arise when Kemp falls in love with Chenault played by Amber Heard, who is the fiance of Mr. Sanderson played by Aaron Eckhart. Sanderson is a powerful business tycoon in which Kemp gets involved with, which causes him to struggle to find a balance with the culture and the people he knows.

What was good about this movie?

Johnny Depp 's  performance of  a believable young and constrained Hunter was truly inspiring and entertaining to watch, with a strong support cast that delivered even more enjoyable moments that made this movie worth watching.

Why you may not enjoy this movie?
Die hard fans of the book may not like how Paul Kemp and Sanderson characters are portrayed. In the film, Deep combines both characters personalities. In the book both have dueling persona's of Hunter, one being a cutthroat athletic type, the other being an alcoholic anti-authoritarian. Some may have issues with this, but I feel the film direction made the movie more enjoyable.

My Impression Score: 3/5 - Average entertainment

Elite Squad: The Enemy Within Review

It's always exciting to watch a foreign movie with subtitles, especially a crime thriller that's new. We have so many crime shows in the US its getting so saturated that we are seeing less refreshing stories. I am not saying Elite Squad is a ground breaking story, for we have seen this type of story told many times. What probably makes this movie so enjoyable is the different atmosphere it presents and a glimpse of what crime could be like in a different country.

Elite Squad: The Enemy Within is a foreign crime, drama, thriller that escalates with a bloody invasion of the BOPE in the High-Security Penitentiary Bangu 1 in Rio de Janeiro. The incident gets criticized when the skull officer in charge Lieutenant-Colonel Roberto Nascimento played by Wagner Moura and his second in command Captain Andre Matias played by Andre Ramiro are accused by the Human Rights member Diogo Fraga for unjust executions of prisoners. This creates chaos that leads to Matias being transferred to the corrupt Military Police, while Nascimento is recognized and promoted to work with the intelligence group of the Secretary of Security. Nascimento service eventually leads to expelling several drug gangs from heavily influenced slums, but creates an even worse adversary protected by political influence leading to mass killings and betrayal. 

Overall, this movie was the biggest box office film of Brazil and I can see why. The movie was action packed, the acting was superb with plots and twists that kept you on your toes providing an enjoyable crime thriller every step of the way. The only reason you may not enjoy this movie is the subtitles. Given there is a lot going on, reading while watching can be a disruption to the great film work this movie presents.

I give 'Elite Squad' an Imp Score of 3 out of 4 smiles. Great Entertainment worth watching!

Safe House Movie Review

What was the movie about?
Safe House is the story about a frustrated inactive agent, Matt Weston played by Ryan Reynolds. Weston is a "housekeeper" assigned to a low-profile safe house in Cape Town, who dreams of being a full-fledged agent. Weston gets an opportunity when his first occupant is the most wanted and one of CIA's best operatives who turned rogue, Tobin Frost played by Denzel Washington. As soon as Frost is brought in for interrogation, chaos erupts and mercenaries attack the safe house. Things look grim and Weston takes measures and barely escapes with Frost. As Weston searches for answers to who attacked, both are hunted aggressively by a party that will stop at nothing to kill them.

Why watch this Movie?
From beginning to end, this was a non-stop action movie. Ryan Reynolds performed admirably in his acting and fight scenes. Denzel Washington was truly entertaining and amazing to watch, to some extent equalling his great performance as a bad guy in Training Day.

Was the movie worth seeing?
I truly enjoyed this movie, it had a good balance, but was heavy on action, which I don't mind at all. I truly enjoy movies with a lot of action when they have great fight scenes, gun play and car chases, which this movie delivered. A must watch if a fan of Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds and action movies for you will find some level of entertainment.

Real Steel Movie Review

What was the movie about?
Real Steel  is a world where boxers are replaced with prize fighting robots. The story focuses on a former boxer turned promoter named Charlie Kenton played by Hugh Jackman. Charlie is what you call a risk taker and an unlucky gambler. That unlucky streak begins to unfold when Charlie losses his robot, then faces a custody battle for his son in which he freely gambles his custody rights for a set amount of money to purchase a new robot. Things don't turn out and Charlie is back to square one with no prize fighting robot to continue, until his son finds and gets attached to a small sparring robot. Charlie is not convinced that the sparring robot has potential, which leads to tensions with his son and mechanic Bailey Tallet played by Evangeline Lilly (Lost).

Why watch this Movie?
Imagine if Rocky was a controlled robot and forms a bond with the son. That's what this movie is like, Rocky meets Astroy boy, except the focus is around the relationship of the father and the bond the son develops with the under rated robot. It develops into an inspiring movie about love, greed, parenting and sacrifice that ends with quality entertainment.

Was the movie worth seeing?
The story concept about boxers being replaced with robots was interesting. How a real boxer would cope with this change, to the struggles one would face is what make this enjoyable to watch.

A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas Movie Review

What was the movie about?
A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas takes place six years after their Guantanamo Bay adventure. Harold Lee played by John Cho and Kumar Patel played Kal Penn have gone separate directions. Harold is a serious married business man who no longer gets stoned. Kumar is still a big stoner, living a rocky life style that caused his girlfriend to leave him. Turn of events brings Kumar to Harold's home, unintentionally burning down Harold's father-in-law's prize Christmas tree. This turns into a funny, dark and crazy adventure to find an exact Christmas tree replacement that involves the mob, Neil Patrick Harris, and shooting Santa Clause.

Why watch this Movie?
This was a funny and crazy movie about stoners who drift apart, but eventually realise that long time friendships can never be forgotten. It just takes a lot of craziness, sex talk, drugs, gun play, car accidents and Neil Patrick Harris to iron out the details to make it a fun time. The movie was created in 3D, but I was not able to view it in that format, for they had some 3D scenes that may have provided some interesting visual moments.

Was the movie worth seeing?
I like the silly, crazy and over the top humor that Harold and Kumar present. If you haven't watched any of Harold and Kumar movies, you may not enjoy this movie. But if you have and know what to expect, then you may just find entertainment. I sure did, for I found a number humorous moments that made it enjoyable to watch.

Contagion Movie Review

What was the movie about?
Contagion is a drama/thriller about an unknown infection that begins to manifest. Beth Emhoff played by Gwyneth Paltrow returns home from a Hong Kong business trip, then suddenly dies a few days later, with no sold answers on why she died. Soon after her son dies the same day. Beth's husband Mitch Emhoff played by Matt Damon is seeking answers to the death of his wife, but is eventually detained and found to be immune to the infection. Mitch is then released, but faces
a chaotic road ahead to protect his daughter from being infected. While the infection escalates globally, CDC led by Dr. Ells Cheever played by Laurence Fishburne sends Dr. Erin Mears played by Kate Winslet and a few other doctors to investigate. Things turn up side down as one doctor becomes infected while the other is kidnapped, concluding to another doctor risking their life to find a cure.

Why watch this Movie?
Contagion delivers a solid story of how an epidemic can cause chaos and fear, to revealing what an individual would risk or do to save a life. The cast perform admirably, showcasing emotion, heartbreak, greed and fear to provide an enjoyable story to watch.

Was the movie worth seeing?
They did a decent job of keeping me interested in wanting to know how the infection started. However, I felt the media propaganda could have been left out, for the story with the rogue journalist felt like a separate story arch that wasn't really needed. Otherwise I felt this movie was worth seeing.

Straw Dogs Movie Review

What was the movie about?
'Straw Dogs' is a remake of 1971 Straw Dogs. The story is about writer 'David Sumner' played by James Mardsen (X-Men) and his wife 'Amy Sumner' played by Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns) who relocates to Amy's hometown so David can work on his story. However, Amy has a history with the town, especially with 'Charlie' played by Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood). There, tensions start to arise with the couples relationship, that leads to a horrible occurrence. More problems arise when the local handicap 'Jeremy Niles' played by Dominic Purcell (Prison Break) does an unexpected act that has the former coach 'Tom Heddon' played by James Woods hunting him. Amy and David accidentally encounters Jeremy on the road and ends up protecting him. This brews conflict with the locals and the former coach that leads to a path of bloodshed.

Why watch this Movie?
For a thriller it delivers a good story point of how one would try to cope with protecting someone from an unjust situation. They don't hold back when things get bloody and provides a good support cast to deliver that gritty and unpredictable environment worth watching.

Was the movie worth seeing?
The movie had some scenes that was questionable and could have been left out or integrated into the story more effectilvey to impact the situation. Otherwise, I found it to be a decent entertainment.

I give 'Straw Dogs (2011)' 3/5 (3 - decent entertainment)

Punished Movie Review

What was the movie about?
'Punished' is a foreign crime/thriller movie about a business tycoon named Wong Ho-chiu played by Anthony Wong, who faces parental issues raising a daughter using drugs. His daughter ends up being kidnapped, but Wong questions if this was a plot by his daughter to obtain more money. Things turn for the worst when Wong and his bodyguard Chor played by Richie Ren find his daughter's body. Wong struggles with his daughter's death, which leads to Wong asking Chor for help to investigate who was behind this, and to punish them all.

Why watch this Movie?
This is a story about what a father would do to obtain justice for what he has lost. Anthony Wong delivers a decent performance of portraying a struggling father, who takes matters into his own hands without actually getting his hands dirty. The movie is slow paced, displaying a few action moments. If you watch this movie with less expectations of being an action movie then you may find it to be enjoyable.

Was the movie worth seeing?
Since I am a fan of Anthony Wong, I am used to watching him perform more emotional acting roles, than seeing him in action. So I didn't expect this to be an action packed movie, but it did provide a satisfying entertainment. One thing to note, this is a subtitled movie, so if you are not into reading text while watching a movie then I wouldn't recommend.

I give 'Punished' 3/5 (3 - decent entertainment)

The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption Movie Review

What was the movie about?
'The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption' tells the story of Mathayus's journey after losing his kingdom and becoming a mercenary. He ends up selling his sword to two warring brothers, Talus played by Billy Zane and Horus played by Ron Perlman. Talus attacks an ally of Horus in order to obtain enough military power to attack Horus's kingdom. Mathayus is hired by Horus first to find a princess, then changes sides a few times in pursuit of great riches. Eventually Mathayus and companion find a path of their own helping the princess change the fate of Talus's invasion.

Why watch this Movie?
The only real reason to watch this movie is if you have nothing else to really watch, or you are curious to see how the story unfolds with Mathayus. Another would be your just a big fan of Ron Perlman, Billy Zane, and Bautista.

Was the movie worth seeing?
With the absence of the rock playing Mathayus, the story falls between mediocre to horrible. The acting was a hit and miss. Adding Billy Zane, Ron Perlman and Bautista doesn't provide enough support to turn it into a more enjoyable movie. The fight scenes felt unrealistic that two kids with wooden sticks could have provided a more realistic and better fighting scenes.

I give 'The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption' 1/5 (1 - watch only if you have no choice)

Chronicle Movie Review

 

 

What was the movie about?
'Chronicle' is about three high school kids who stumble on a meteor. Steven Montgomer played by Michael B. Jordan is your super popular high school kid. Matt Garetty played by Alex Russell is your bad boy high school kid. Andrew Detmer played by Dane Dehaan is your unpopular high school kid with issues. The three form a bound when they start to realise they now have abilities. They start experimenting on what they can do, eventually getting stronger and expanding beyond their basic backyard testing. Steven becomes closer with Andrew and tries to help him overcome his issues by making him popular. Things don't turn out and Andrew loses control leading to a death. Andrew becomes even more uncontrollable when his dysfunctional family issues unfold. Leading to a city wide destruction and a confrontation with the one person that truly carried about him.

Why watch this Movie?
Imagine you find a fallen meteor, now you have abilities, but what can you actually do. You begin to experiment to find your limits. All of sudden you can fly. Now picture that with three totally different personalities of high school kids who don't act like heroes, or use it for good, but only to have fun! What would you do if you had abilities as a teenager? That's the question I wanted find an answer to by watching the movie.

Was the movie worth seeing?
At first I thought it was going to be a story about good and evil, one taking the role of a super hero, the other a villain. However, they did a good job of telling a different story. Focusing more on how one would cope with having abilities, to how it would influence their lives, which made it a more enjoyable and entertaining movie to watch. Go see it!

The Grey Movie Review

 

 

What was the movie about?
'The Grey' focuses on character named 'Ottway' played by Liam Neeson, who is struggling with a tragedy that leads to him wanting to end his life. However, a greater tragedy occurs, placing him amongst strangers in middle of nowhere in the harsh and freezing weather of the Alaskan mountain range. On top of trying to survive the freezing cold, Ottway and crew have greater dangers to worry about for they are aggressively hunted by a pack of territorial wolves making their survival even more perilous.

Why watch this Movie?
What makes this movie worth watching is how the drama unfolds between each character and how they cope with trying to survive as each one is slowly hunted down by the pack of wolves. This is a movie about surviving, and it delivers this message clearly, for it shows the struggles of people when life is controlled by predators.

Was the movie worth seeing?
At first I thought it was going to be an end all, be all type of movie, but I was suprised. It delivered a solid and entertainig survival story with a questionable ending. Check it out for it's worth watching.

I give The Grey 4/5 (4 - worth watching)

Warrior Movie Review

What was the movie about?
'Warrior' is a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) action/drama story about a dysfunctional family of  two brothers separated because of an alcoholic father played by Nick Nolte. The younger brother, 'Tommy Conlon' played by Tom Hardy returns home with ambitions to fight in the ring, but is haunted by his military past and his hatred for his older brother. The older brother, 'Brendan Conlon' played by Joel Edgerton was a former UFC fighter decides to return to the ring in hopes of earning money to support his family. Eventually both brothers climb to the top leading to a final showdown of hatred and love.

Why watch this Movie?
What I enjoyed most about this movie was the mixed martial arts fight scenes. They did a superb job of portraying the fighting and life style of an MMA fighter. The acting was also well done, piecing it all together to provide an enjoyable movie.

Was the movie worth seeing?
I am a big fan of action, dramas and mixed martial arts. To see it all in one movie and present it well was truly entertaining. Definitely worth watching!

Drive Movie Review

Why watch this movie?
'Drive' stars Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan. If you are a fan of both that's one reason to watch. The car chases and stunts are another good reason. Gosling could have used more lines, but otherwise his action scenes are entertaining enough to watch.

What was the movie about?
The story is about a quiet and reserved stunt man, who ends up getting involved with a single parent. When the husband returns from prison things turns for the worse. Goslings character 'Driver', ends up helping the husband resolve an issue. Things don't turn out and even more trouble occurs causing harm to everyone Driver knows and cares about.

Was the movie worth seeing?
If you enjoy watching car chases, stunts and messy killings then you may find it entertaining. I felt it was a bit slow to start. Eventually it picks up with more action and killing at the end turning it into a more enjoyable action movie. 

I give Drive 3/5 (3 - its decent entertainment)

In Time Movie Review

Why watch this movie?
'In Time' stars Justin Timerblake and Amanda Seyfried. Its a unique story about society genetically changing how we live and die. Aging stops at 25, currency is replaced with a time clock that is embed in your arm. People work to earn time and use to pay for everyday living, shortening the time they live. The poor struggle to maintain time, while the rich lavish with decades to centuries of time.

Justin, Amanda and cast provide a decent performance and entertainment, but what really makes this movie worth watching is the story premise of how society copes living by a timer.

What was the movie about?
The story focuses on Justin Timberlakes character 'Will Salas' who is given 100 years of time by a stranger who had enough of living and dies. This causes the time police and time thieves to start chasing Will, who eventually kidnaps and falls in love with Amanda Seyfriend character 'Sylvia Weis'.  This adds more heat to Will Salas, for  Sylvia is the daughter of the business tycoon that manages the time system. Eventually the story unfolds into a Bonny and Clyde escapade where the two rob time banks to give back to the poor.

Was the movie worth seeing?
If you are a fan of Justin Timerblake and Amanda Seyfried, then I recommend checking it out. They do a decent performance to deliver an enjoyable story.

Underworld: Awakening 3D Movie Review

Why watch this movie?
Anything with Kate Beckinsale is worth watching in my book. I'm just a big fan of her work. Plus I am a big fan of vampires and werewolves too. What interested me most about this movie was the return of Kate's character. Her characters absence in Underworld: Rise of Lycans, to how Underworld Evolution ended, made me wonder how Awakening continues the story line.

What was the movie about?
Underworld: Awakening is the return of Kate's character 'Selene'.  It tells the story of what happens after Underworld Evolution. It does a good job of doing flashbacks to tie you in, but I would recommend watching Underworld and Underworld: Evolution first if you haven't already, to experience the story. The story is pretty much a continuation of the ongoing fight between the vampires and the lycans, but this time a third party is added to the fight, 'the humans', which dominate both factions with technology.

Was the movie worth seeing?
Kate Beckinsale does a superb job of keeping the action flowing. If they had an action award for best female action hero, I would nominate Kate based on what she delivered in this movie. The 3D presentation is not all that great. I still think the 3D in Resident Evil: Afterlife presented the best use of 3D and maybe a few other movies too. You won't miss out if you watch it in non-3D. Definitely worth watching!
